I admit, TERA has me interested and most likely I will try it out, simply because the game is gorgeous and the real-time combat environment has me intrigued. HOWEVER, the points you bring up are ones I understand and relate to. I've pretty much sworn off Castanics as a race simply because the models shown thus far, with clothing mind you, are completely tasteless and only makes them look like sex-bots. I am pretty much narrowing my choice for female characters to humans for now because of it, and that's a pity. Not even the high elves have been immune to the "butt-wiggle" dancing when spells are cast...who knows how the human females are too?

But, regardless, I am probably gonna give it a whirl when a week or so after its launch is complete and see what initial reviews are saying. I've learned my lesson in bad MMOs in yeas past not to pre-order or try to buy on launch day, heh.

True. I think it's also time to plan what alts you're going to roll and what professions they'll have so that you can start stockpiling materials for them. Last thing you want is having to pay through the nose and spend all the money you've managed to earn.

I'm currently going through all my banks as well. This is the time to clear out what I won't be needing and what won't sell come Cata time. I'm also thinking about trying to gather a bunch of starter profession mats as many people will leveling a new goblin/worgen with professions, I'm sure.

Also forgot to add, that low level greens on my server are ridiculously overpriced. Anywhere from 5g-20g a pop.

I don't recall you mentioning having a high level scribe, but there is the rituals of the new moon offhand (a frill item) that is crafted by a few inks and a few eternal shadows. Costs me about 15g-30g to make them and I regularly sell them for 250-300 gold. The main way I got the word out was to do a tongue in cheek snarky advert on trade chat and more often than not one or two people would buy one after I had posted. If I hadn't advertised in trade not as many people will buy because it isn't a well known item.

I do a lot of lower level materials flipping - I get on early in the morning, scan through the enchants, minerals and herbs, buy up anything that's under 50% of market value (handy GoingPrice) and hold onto it. I'll stock up on materials over the week then post about 150 auctions on Friday afternoon. Steady 25-50% growth on investment, now that I've learned the things that are always underpriced on my server and learned not to get too heavily invested in any one commodity.

Hi Gaz,
For tips on how to make the scroll market a bit easier to manage, I wrote a couple of posts recently about using the addon EnchantShop, which should help you break into that. Part one here and Part 2 here.
There are plenty of tips out there on making gold, and suggest you take a look at the JMTC forums.
Best of luck

I think I'm lucky in that most of the ones I play on are medium pop, and that my characters are fairly self-sufficient when working together. I agree with you though - most of the time badges are spent on Primordial Saronite. Although most other people have the same idea now - I've seen it go for 400g each on my server.

I'm very casual at this money-making game, but i'm trying to stock up some gold for Cata aswell.
I spend most of my time now on BGs and I got 3 alchemy toons (one being a transmute master) , so yeah, I have been selling gems for a while now. So it's about 5 gems per day, on average.
And since there's not a single piece of loot to buy with badges nowadays I spend all my frosts on Primordial Saronites too.
My server is low pop, and i assume it'll be terrible to lvl up professions there, so i'm preparing for very high prices at AH.

This may seem silly, but if you have a low level DK hanging around, do some quick runs of Stocks for wool and green/blue drops. I have gotten several very nice blue twink drops that have sold for quite a bit. Wool on the horde servers I've been on are easily 15-25g a stack. It is a bit more work for my horde toons to get to Stormwind, for Alliance it should be a piece of cake to rack up some gold. This may be more of a project for someone completely new to a server without professions, but if you are just sitting around anyways, it is easy to do and quick.

Oh man, the first part of the article, it looked like I wrote it myself! It was EXACTLY like me. Only difference is that my Cata main is and will be a Priest, and this 80 of mine has Tailoring - Enchanting as well. I do Loremaster of Northrend to earn extra cash, and do dailies as well.

The way I made most money is by selling mats of areas right before Outland (when I'm farming Scholo or Strat for example). These mats are all in high demand of leveling enchanters, and thus the price on the AH is fairly high considering the effort I put in to obtain them.

I'm not really stocking on any mats, for now I sell all my mats on AH, because gold, well, you can ALWAYS use that no matter what. When Cata ships I'm thinking about sellign all my cloth while leveling and not using it to level Tailoring-Enchanting. Right after an expansion the prices sky-rocket, and thus I prefer to make loads of gold then to have my Profession at 525 asap.

You really made up for that silly age remark last episode. Enjoyed the discussion about the lifecourse of a gamer. Well done! (But stop obsessing over being 31! You did it AGAIN in the beginning of the show.. For a sec I almost thought it was last weeks show...)

You have a 30 year old crises. Get over it. Life just gets better you know. Even if you're not as good at FPS games as you used to.

Cheers!

I really do think that he does have a point when he says that the gaming community has moved on.
Where in the past it was only done by really big nerds that played it behind closed doors.
Nowadays the gaming industry is a much more widely accepted passtime for a much wider audience. As a result it has evolved along that line to speak to a much larger community.
This means, wether or not counting the first gamers as having evolved and grown older and more mature, that the industry has made progress because the clientele has made progress. If that were not the case the gaming industry would have stopped at tetris.

And the analogy you make when trying to say it has no more evolved then saying all liberals want communism is just stupid. If only because that is a much larger change.
Nor does that analogy, or any of the others for that matter, make any sense in this context.

I donot really have any games I wouldn't play out of moral reasons. I can seperate games about the second world war pretty easily from what really happened in that time (and I am a history teacher at a highschool in my country).

All I truly want in a game is that it plays well. that the controls are good, and there is a good storyline.

Too many games these days focus too much on graphics and then forget about the gameplay. I could give a few examples if it weren't 1:43 at night right now so too tired to come up with names.
But there are plenty of games outthere that look great (for their respective times) but play crap.
On the other hand you have gammes that play great but don't have amazing graphics. Even for their respective times. Best example of that I can think of right now is Starcraft (original haven't played the new one yet) It had good graphics for it's time, but nothing really special. But it was rated good enough to be played at the world cyber games right up untill I think it was warcraft 3 came out.
My point is. playability and story always go above graphics. The story because it can keep pulling you back even after a few years. As Starcraft has done for me many times.

I was more so taking issue with this concept: "They ignore the progress we’ve made, both as gamers and as part of a wider gaming community." You're assuming that the mentality of you and yours extends to gamers as a whole, and it doesn't. At all. You don't have to go out of the way to find that "gamers as a whole" haven't made the type of progress you're claiming here.

Well, no more than people who say "all liberals want communism", "All asians are good at math" or "Everyone Loves Raymond".

"Speak of the devil and he appears" ~ Shakespeare.

Since Spinks muttered 2 girls and one cup, and other porn references were mentioned. I game for one reason...gameplay.

There are many games out there that do sex, or try to sell the sexiness of the game, but let's face it the games that are overt about it, have they really been good other then the 15 minutes you play to get the chick naked.

Also lets look at the culture these games from. Asian Culture is still probably not that high in regards to their treatment of women, from what I read, I could be wrong since I'm not asian. They are a different culture though then western ideals. heck in america it's easier to show a head blown off, then a pair of breasts, which I find a little disturbing in itself.

Is there a game I won't play cause of a morale choice, yea Second Life, yea way too many dudes playing as chicks in that game...it scares me.
